D.C. United to Offer New Text Messaging Sweepstakes
Fans can win prizes and vote for Man of the Match via text message
October 12, 2006
WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United, in conjunction with Distributive Networks, is introducing a new text message sweepstakes during all home matches for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. By sending a text message during the first half of home games, fans will be made eligible for a prize package to be handed out during the second half. In addition, fans will be able to vote for their Man of the Match by texting their vote out of a series of choices at the end of each match.
"As long-time D.C. United fans ourselves, the entire team at Distributive Networks is thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with D.C. United, and to help provide such exciting in-venue interactivity," said Distributive Networks' Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Bertram. "Through the mobile marketing capability that Distributive Networks is providing, D.C. United is proving its commitment to the very best fan experience, and we look forward to seeing great results in fan participation and response."
To make themselves eligible for the sweepstakes, in-stadium fans should text the word "WIN" to 56333 during the first half of the match. The winner will then be selected via a drawing at halftime, and the winner will receive their prize and have their picture put on the Jumbotron during the second half.
For D.C. United's final regular season home match against the Chicago Fire on October 15, the prize for the sweepstakes will be a Blackout four-pack - four tickets to an upcoming D.C. United playoff match - and a replica D.C. United home jersey.
To vote for D.C. United's Man of the Match, four choices will be presented to fans after the 75th minute. Each player will be assigned a letter: A, B, C or D. Fans will text the letter that corresponds to their vote to 56333 (text "A" to vote for player A, "B" to vote for player B, and so on) between the 80th minute and the final whistle. D.C. United's Man of the Match will be posted following the conclusion of the game.
