Distributive Networks Powering New Method for University of Maryland to Connect with Terrapin Fans
December 10, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC - In an effort to utilize unique and cutting edge methods to connect with their passionate fan base, the University of Maryland Athletic Department has selected Washington, DC-based Distributive Networks to provide a mobile messaging platform that allows the school to interact with Terp fans via their mobile phones during sporting events, and throughout the year.
Maryland selected the Distributive Networks platform because it is flexible enough to incorporate new promotions for the athletic department, scalable enough to handle multiple text-messages received during contests and it provides advanced measurement capabilities to allow the university to gauge the success of any specific program.
While initially available during Terrapin football games, both Maryland and Distributive Networks will offer these same programs during all home games of the Men’s and Women’s basketball season currently underway.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to engage our passionate fans who support the Terrapins,” said Brett Tillett, Director of Marketing at the University of Maryland. “Using Distributive Networks easy-to-use solution allows us, and our sponsors to engage our fans in fun, exciting contests and other promotional avenues that allows them to show their Terp Pride year-round.”
The Distributive Networks platform has already allowed the university to run an interactive sweepstakes program at the Terrapins’ home football games. Dunkin’ Donuts was the first University of Maryland sponsor to leverage the flexibility and reach of mobile campaigns by sponsoring a text message sweepstakes during all Terrapin home football games. The sweepstakes gave Maryland students the chance to win a $50 gift card to Dunkin Donuts by texting in the name of their favorite professor, with the winner announced during the third quarter. Additionally, the university will look to utilize this technology to run trivia contests, polling and other interactive programs to keep fans engaged throughout the game.
“We are thrilled to be involved in this unique branding opportunity with the University of Maryland,” said Kevin Bertram, CEO of Distributive Networks. “Programs such as text messaging sweepstakes are a great way to reach young people in particular, and we are honored to work with and support the Terps.”
