WASHINGTON, DC - The Washington Capitals and Distributive Networks are pleased to announce the launch of the Caps Mobile Playoff Fantasy Challenge, an innovative mobile marketing campaign that captures fan enthusiasm as the Caps compete for the 2009 Stanley Cup. Fans can play the free hockey fantasy game on their mobile phones throughout the playoffs, accumulating points for their selected players' on-ice performance for the chance to win great Caps prizes.
To start the challenge, fans are invited to simply text the word FANTASY to 37686. A few hours before each Caps game, they will receive a text message reminding them to text in the jersey number of their selected player for that game. Participants receive one point for every assist their selected Caps player accumulates in that game, one point for every goal, and an extra point for a game-winning goal. The day after each game, the system will send each participating fan a text message with their updated score, rank, and the current overall leader's score. Participants can also text the word SCORE to 37686 at any time to check their current score and standing. The challenge officially starts with the Capitals game versus the Rangers on April 15 but fans can join in to compete at any time during the playoff season.
After the final Caps playoff game, the three fans with the highest point totals will receive one of three exciting Caps prizes:
The Fantasy Challenge adds to the existing suite of mobile tools used by the Washington Capitals, through its partnership with Distributive Networks, to reach and to engage the team's loyal fans. For example, Caps fans can text the word CAPS to 37686 to join the Caps Mobile Club and receive alerts about the team, players, games and special promotions. While attending games at the Verizon Center, fans can also participate in real-time mobile polls and text in "shout-outs" to be displayed on the arena's videoboard.
"We are excited to partner with Distributive Networks to bring the Caps Mobile Playoff Fantasy Challenge to life," says Michael Chan, Marketing Manager for the Washington Capitals. "The Challenge is an inventive way to further engage our fans during the Stanley Cup playoffs—no matter where they are on game day—and to bring them the fun of competition and the chance to win fantastic Caps prizes. We are proud to be at the forefront of mobile marketing in the NHL, with huge thanks to Distributive Networks' powerful platform and talented staff."
Distributive Networks CEO Kevin Bertram says, "We are so pleased to be able to support the Washington Capitals' commitment to providing a best-in-class fan experience, both in the arena and out. The Caps Mobile Playoff Fantasy Challenge demonstrates how effective the mobile channel can be in truly engaging an audience, we look forward to a great response to the campaign from Caps fans—as we, too, wish the team the best of luck in the playoffs!"
